Breathing life back into Adelaide city centre, this large scale mixed-use commercial and retail development will feature a reinvigorated 5,000sqm city square and public realm, commercial towers with 40,000sqm of premium office space behind old Parliament house, and a two storey precinct featuring cafes, restaurants and luxury retail outlets. This will include the introduction of a new car park to accommodate 1,500 spaces.
The design is inspired by famous international city squares, such as Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona and Leicester Square in London. The missing piece of the puzzle, Festival Plaza will work as a connection between the city’s most visited public facilities to create a dynamic entertainment centre. Interlinking the Adelaide Oval, railway station, Casino, Festival Centre, convention centre and riverside area to create a space that Adelaidians will be proud of and to which tourists will gravitate.
The flexible design of the square and reinvigorated public space will accommodate concerts, exhibitions, pop-up food and beverage stands, art and other cultural exhibitions. Festival Plaza Square will become a thriving city destination where the people of Adelaide will come to attend cultural and sporting events, work, socialise, eat, drink and be entertained throughout the day and night.
With the best office accommodation in Adelaide, aimed at 6 Green Star, the twin towers will attract local blue chip companies, interstate and global commercial tenants for the economic benefit of the state, while playing a part in bringing people into the square to be entertained after work. The project will commence in 2016 and is expected to be complete in 2019.
