Lang Walker supports United for Macarthur A-League bid

Lang Walker, Executive Chairman of Walker Corporation, is in support of, and proud to be the Business Ambassador for the United for Macarthur A-League bid. This bid will see a new A-league football team created to compete at national level.

The campaign to win the bid known as “United for Macarthur”, led by Campbelltown City Council on behalf of the Macarthur Region, has won the support of major industry, sport, political and community figures, with strong expectations for success.

Mr. Walker, Chairman of Walker Corporation, said “As a member of the Macarthur community – having operated in the region for many years, we were excited by the Macarthur’s bid for an A-League team and opportunity to show our support. The Macarthur bid has the legs to win with the Campbelltown Sports Stadium in place and ready to go, waiting for the new A-league team.”

“It makes perfect sense for one of the fastest growing populations in any urban area of Australia to have its own football team in what is an exciting and successful national competition”, he added.

Mr. Walker said a successful bid would trigger investment in the team, the sport and future upgrades to the Campbelltown Sports Stadium and as a byproduct, other local sporting facilities and clubs, creating sporting opportunities for future generations while generating new jobs in the Macarthur area.

There are currently 11,000 registered footballers in the region with expectations for numbers to grow to 20,000 in the future, with a clear pathway from junior leagues to national level with an A-League team increasing awareness and interest in the sport.

Further there is the opportunity for a professional team to be established early and grow with the Region…capturing the hearts and minds of its many residents.

The Bid is also aligned to the State Governments Corridor Strategy which will see Leumeah transformed into a regionally significant sporting and entertainment precinct.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the Macarthur community loved their football, and news of the local bid had attracted a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm.

“We have a unique opportunity for the FFA, where they can establish a new A-League Team in a region that will strengthen the A-League competition and the national football base by growing new supporters of the game. ” he said.

“Council is pleased to have the support of Lang Walker, a successful and respected businessman with a strong commitment to the Macarthur Region.” Mr Walker added: “I am especially pleased to be an ambassador for the bid as it is community-based and owned in a co-operative model. This will generate further investment in this fast growing region that will become home to near 1 million people under the NSW Government Three Cities Strategy.”
