One of Australia’s largest broadband installations is coming to Sydney’s newest and largest masterplanned community at Appin, with the announcement of a multi-million-dollar partnership between Walker Corporation and NBN Co.

Under the agreement, one of the nation’s largest for a single housing development, nbn will service a large area of the Macarthur region with its latest and fastest Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) technology, delivering an economic, social and productivity boost to the community and broader region.

The digital infrastructure deal comes just weeks after another multi-million-dollar partnership was signed between Walker Corporation, Sydney Water and coNEXA to fast-track water and recycled wastewater infrastructure to the new Appin development.

An advanced animated flythrough of the first stage of the new Walker Appin community has been revealed today showing the meticulous masterplanning which will go into delivering over 13,000 new homes to boost Sydney’s housing supply.

Walker Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer David Gallant said months of careful planning and discussions has gone into reaching this important milestone.

“Seeing the animation of the grand entry statement, the beautiful lake and vast open spaces, all set amongst brand new quality homes in a well-connected and infrastructure focused neighbourhood is a proud moment for Walker. We have worked closely with Wollondilly Council and the NSW Government to finalise planning and infrastructure for this major masterplanned community and are excited to get started,” Mr Gallant said.

Mr Gallant said the new partnership with nbn is a large upfront investment to deliver smart homes of the future for every Appin resident.

“We want the very best for families moving into our new communities and that’s why we have teamed up with the best in the business to deliver this outstanding full fibre technology"

“It will also connect our adjoining high tech business park to the fastest broadband speeds which will bring thousands of professional jobs for residents to live and work locally.”

The massive full fibre rollout extends to 13,000 premises in Walker Appin communities with each home and business able to access nbn’s fastest residential speeds supported by a full fibre connection.

NBN Co Executive General Manager – New Developments Andrew Walsh said households and businesses in Appin communities will get access to nbn’s fastest and most reliable broadband speeds.

“By delivering full fibre to Walker Appin communities, residents will be able to run more concurrent devices, upload and download files faster, experience higher-definition streaming, faster game downloads and online performance, all with fewer interruptions,” Mr Walsh said.

“On top of the ample lifestyle benefits on offer, this essential infrastructure will help drive social equity, productivity and economic growth for the community and  broader Macarthur region.”

Mr Walsh added there will also be significant opportunities for the community to enjoy nbn’s Smart Places product.

“We are also exploring how our full fibre technology can go beyond just homes and businesses by connecting to eligible smart infrastructure, which would help the community to keep track of community events, spikes in pollen levels, bushfire emergency information and even wildlife alerts.”

The nbn fibre rollout is due to commence in 2025 to service the new Appin communities.
