Construction of final tower at Collins Square moved forward due to heightened demand for space

Walker Corporation today announced that they will bring forward construction of its 40,000 square metre Tower 5 at the $2.5 billion Collins Square development, due to strong demand from a number of blue chip corporate tenants.

Discussions are well underway with a number of major tenants, one of which has expressed interest in 16,000 square metres and others to lease areas ranging from 4 floors through to enquiries to lease the whole building – the last tower in the successful development.

Collins Square is one of the largest mixed-use commercial and retail CBD precincts in Australia and the largest in Melbourne, with 210,000 square metres of premium office space now leased. About 110,000 square metres of office space has been leased at Collins Square over the last 18 months.

Executive Chairman of Walker Corporation Mr Lang Walker said “We are in very advanced discussions with a range of premium tenants keen to secure the last tower in our development, following the announcement of Tabcorp securing the remaining 4 floors of in Tower 2. “We are bringing forward construction to deliver the building to tenants by early 2018, with many of them consolidating their Melbourne operations or re-locating their head offices to Collins Square”, he added.

On completion Collins Square will consist of six towers along with the refurbished historic Goods Shed, combined with world class restaurants and amenities, with a total of over 250,000 square metres of lettable office space.

Collins Square tenants now include Marsh Mercer, Transurban, KPMG, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Penguin Random House and Pearson, Maddocks, Link Group, Mott McDonald, Tabcorp, BDO, Pexa, MLC and AECOM.

With 200 metres of prominent Collins Street frontage, Collins Square attracts 46,000 people a day to its commercial, retail, public and civic spaces, designed by major architectural firms Bates Smart, Hassell Studio and Woods Bagot.

Each commercial tower was designed to achieve a 5 star NABERS Energy rating, while tenants have been attracted to the buildings’ highly flexible and iconic work spaces with large floor plates. Another major feature of the development is 10,000 square metres of retail areas, to be fully occupied in March 2017, with a major fresh food retailer expected to be announced shortly.

Coinciding with the completion of Tower 2, Walker has also opened the new Collins Square Business and Events Centre with a number of major firms already having attended events since opening. Situated over two levels and comprising over 3,000 square metres in space, the centre is ideally located on the plaza level and can accommodate groups of up to 400 people or as intimate as private dining rooms for client entertainment.

One of the key factors at Collins Square has been our ability to meet the ever changing needs of Melbourne businesses” said Mr Walker, “including our state of the art Business and Events Centre which is providing premium quality service and finishes for all the tenants at Collins Square”
